I WRITE YOU POEMS

“MALLARI”

Just when the rain drops on the roof,
Of all people, I thought of you.
Having coffee ‘because we’re no longer aloof,
No other talks but our life’s shoes.

Rest assured you are our protector.
Only good is your prime mover,
Because you are not just another;
You are to us, a precious brother.

Many ups and downs you have faced,
All life’s blow by blows you embraced.
Little by little you grew into a man.
Loving and caring you are more than.

All of the people I know, you are the mightiest.
Riding on and beating down life’s toughest.
Is there anything I need to say more?
Reinvent yourself because life has a lot for you in store.

“CLAIRE”

Cool-and-calm is your best description.
Laughing in sarcasm is your enemy’s deception.
Although I fear love for KPOP is idolatry,
I am still uncertain if it’s worse than masonry.

Rare are women like you,
Ewing at everything that couples do;
Loosen up I say, my sister,
Of course you are not getting any younger.

Unwilling to fall in love is not your deal.
I say getting married is better of zeal.
Surreal if the youngest goes first,
End your marriage fantasies because that’s worst comes to worst.

“MYRA”

Mother, listen to the child you gave birth to
You can count on me and rest from school
Running out of breath from a disease
Attacks on you tear us piece by piece

“VIRGILIO”

Victor from vices that’s what I declare you;
Indeed fatherhood transformed you.
Rest your lungs from cigarettes,
Get it over with or choose the cabaret.

Instead father, take us to church, we say.
Lord our God as a family we shall praise.
Ill-gotten wealth was never for us;
On earth we don’t get what God does not want.

“CHERRIE”

Child, you are the family’s youngest.
Hush, you are also the toughest.
Every time you live in too much independence,
Rest I say, you are running out of youthfulness.

Read, read and read, my dear.
In life, you can also learn from books than experiences that cut like shears.
Every day I worry about what might hurt you,
May it be kick-boxing, project or at any rendezvous.

All of what I say boils down to this:
Even you’re at legal age you can’t fight life fist to fist.

“ANGEL”

Mother’s thoughts go with you alone.
In the darkest of night, she thinks of you all along,
Cause you have trapped her in your zone.
Hurry up! Put your story into a song.

Another day, another week, another month;
Every second, every minute it’s your safety that she wants.
Loving you is yours and your mother’s bond,
And leaving you is something that she can’t.

Nobody knows how she feels,
Getting a glimpse of your smile that is from ear-to-ear.
East to west your dimple unwinds;
Letting these thoughts drown her mind.

Over and over she thinks of you.
Dying to see you makes her feel blue.
Everything I say, for mothers are true;
Listening to their heartbeats we no longer are used.

Answering your mother’s prayers from heavens up high,
Patting your mother’s shoulder as she takes a deep sigh;
Are you listening to this poem of mine?
Zip my thoughts if it’s not same to thine.

“We – Past, present, future, rewind”

How will I tell myself you’re only and just a dream,
Cause you have been on my mind?
Heart beats for the first time.

I see your eyes, the way you smile,
Exciting my heart just like the sunshine.
Our little talks, the roads we walked,
Now I understand, there can be you and I.

You play around to hold my hand.
In purpose you whisper to shout my name.
We talked about everything, everything under the sun.
Now I understand, there will be you and I.

You’re gone and to me there’s nothing left.
I’ve waited years too long enough.
You came back saying you’ve prepared for the future yet I was with another.
Just now I understand, there could have been you and I.

And just now you understand, there should have been you and I.

But now we both understand, there can’t be you and I.

It's just on me, I don't know if you, too.

I believe that no one can call himself "successful" unless he has the doors of Heaven opening for him and the Father welcomes him back in His warm embrace with the angels singing and a smile on His face. Because that's what all of us are here for. It's like we were once angels and after the revolt in Heaven we were sent here on earth, given the chance to choose which side we prefer to stay. This life, this is that chance, that whatever we live for on earth good or evil, that is the choice we make.To stay in Heaven with God or to stay in Hell with Satan.

Living Life

When I was young, definitely a teenager, I always believed that I am not worthy, not favored, not blessed, and worst, not loved. In fact, a teacher from my high school knew about my blues being just an option, a second choice - that's in every aspect of life. That is how miserable I have felt; being with a lot of people everyday, every minute, yet when everyone gets to choose just one person to be with, I will never be anybody's first choice - always a runner up.

Then I thought "Could my mom pick me?" Nope. She'll probably pick dad or my eldest sister. I thought about my father. Nope. He'll probably pick mom or my youngest sister. Could it be my sisters, my family, my friends, the nuns, the priests or the pastors, or my professors? Could it be my readers? Could it be my lover who I have never had? The answer is "NO".

And then I stopped looking for someone who would pick me as their first, not only because I was consistently told of the cliche euphemism "One day you'll meet someone who will put you first (to be specific, in this planet)." I stopped looking because I grew tired hoping, believing that there's someone out there. I refused to hear another "NO", and I am scared and I am tired of hearing the exact same thing over and over again. So, I stopped.

For six months I was just at home. Desperate,  because I could not find a job. Hopeless, because I do not even remember what I wanted to become, what my dreams are, who I was and who I wanted to be. I cannot see the path that seems to be so vivid and clear when I was young. I have nowhere to go.

Only when I came across the movie "God's Not Dead" (I am not sure if you have seen it, but I do suggest), I realized that there's always someone who cared about me, who placed me first, who thought of me more than power, wealth, and even more than His own life. And I am sure you are certain of who I am talking about, it's Jesus - God.

Then to some, or probably most of you, I sound laughable, intolerably corny, and definitely boring. Why? Because I am talking about someone or something you and I have never seen? Let me ask you. Have you seen your future? You entire past? You were told by your parents that the first word you said was TATA and you lived your life believing it, even if you haven't seen it yourself or heard it on tape, or sense it in the most absolute way.Yet you believed, because it was your past and your parents were the only people you can trust about this. Because it was favorable. If so, shouldn't we believe in the scriptures? Shouldn't we believe in God because he is the only one who knows our past, present and future more than anybody and even more than ourselves. Shouldn't we see our God as a favorable God?

Going back, all I am saying is that after all the "NO's" in my life, it took sometime for me to hear a "YES" which was probably just there all the time when I was too busy looking and I forgot to listen. Same is true with life and career. It is not always a "YES", but with every "NO" you learn, and you have yourself scratched and friction-ed. And yes, even the finest of crystals needs friction to be as beautiful as they are worth of everyone's attention.

Look, I maybe consistently disappointing your expectations of me saying things about how to choose the right career and how to live life successfully. I am just here to talk about how I chose mine and how I lived my life so far. And you are there sitting and imagining me as someone who is talking to you face to face giving you two options: (one) listen and learn from my words; or (two) listen and unlearn everything after the last period of this article. But either way I need you to do more than just reading or hearing me in your head, I need you to listen. And I am not requiring or even expecting the littlest of all the chances of you quoting me in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Blogger, Google + or whatsoever social media platform you use. I just need you to do one simple yet very demanding word - LISTEN.

In the end I will just be answering one question that if not all, most of you have posted in your minds throughout this article: "Why is this person demanding me to listen when he/she is not even someone famous and worthy of my time?" If you have gone this far, let me answer you. If you dared to listen to my make-believe voice in your head, if you read every word in this article, if you patiently seek for the answer, it all boils down to the old saying "A good leader is a good listener." When you know how to listen to the tiniest voice you can hear, you are ready to listen to the loudest shout. For he who listens, learns more than a man who can afford books, he who listens can afford experience - that is life's greatest teacher.

So you might turn the title background on me. How are you living life?

It is simple. I dream. Because dreams are life's purposes. When I stop dreaming, I stop living life for a purpose, I stop doing more, I stop believing in what I can do, I stop knowing who I am and all that is left for me is to wait for death to come knocking on my door.

Let me ask you. What sounds better?

"I will work hard because I am dreaming of having my own house, car, boutique, and my own legacy."
Or
"I just need to survive this sh.t everyday."

Our mind is very powerful that what we think is what we  perceive, and what we perceive is what we live. It's just a matter of choosing which, what and whose side to take. Freewill. Will you choose the good? Or will you choose the absence of it?

Life is how you define it by your choices.

By FAITH

And then I have cried the sincerest tears to Him.
I have felt most loved by Him.
I felt I have lived more than enough every minute of my life because I walked this life with Him!

THE MAN OF YOUR DREAMS

Did you ever have that moment when you wake up remembering a handsome guy in your dream, but ironically cannot remember his face? Like, you just know he’s handsome. End of the conversation. That’s what us, girls call - “the man of our dreams.”

And if you woke up to that once, yeah, I’ve been there…like a lot! I also tried getting back to sleep and chase after him, but it’s just plainly impossible.

Yes, this is when us, girls begin to fantasize about a guy which we honestly do not know if existent. And if we can only draw his face, upload it on the internet, have it viral and talked about, and get people involving themselves to find him, we will, right? Unfortunately, the main point goes “you cannot remember his face”.

The right guy? Fate? Destiny? Divine providence?

May he be or may he not be any of the aforementioned most used girl reasons, the big question comes after going crazy in love.  If someone, somewhere finds him and he learned all about your stalker-ish desperateness to see him, wouldn’t you just CREEP him and SCARE him AWAY? Get it real girl, HE DOES NOT EVEN KNOW YOU, and you are here somewhere in the globe looking for him?!

Therefore, I came up with one great solution –
STOP LOOKING FOR THE MAN OF YOUR DREAMS!

You can say I am crazy, harsh, immoral, out-of-bounds, whatever whatever, but let me tell you my case.

I am a 20-year old (turning 21) lady. I know a lot of guys and most of them are my friends, but I never had a boyfriend. My girl friends are in a relationship, I am not. Yes! In my 20 years of existence, I have never been in a relationship. And you may think that I am desperate, but sorry to disappoint you, I am not. Of all people I must be the one going crazy and believing the “man of my dreams” shit, but no, I don’t. Why? Again, because I am not desperate. Why? Because desperate people are insecure people, discontent people, and people who define happiness from the society and someone else’s way of defining happiness.

Girl, happiness is how you define it. It's an inside job!

And again, why waste your time looking for the man of your dreams? Why have lists of what your future man should be? Cut it off! Get your ass to yourself. Instead of searching and waiting for that power genes guy, why not devote your time to shaping a better you? Be your own kind of beautiful. Instead of chasing him, why not chase your dreams? Why look for a nouveau riche when you can pursue your own dreams and succeed?  Why look, if you can be found? Why dream of him when he can dream of you?

“Then many will be intimidated by my achievements!”

Yes. But remember this:
A boy will be intimidated, but a MAN will prove himself worthy.

Never be a girlfriend material. Be a wife material. A ring, covenant, vow and marriage, who does not want them?

And most of all, do not look for the right one, be the right one.

Remember: The guy will come!

WHERE HAVE I BEEN ALL MY LIFE?

Travel

To start off with. I began travelling when I was a toddler. Yes. Without all the bluffing. And how do I remember, you may ask? I honestly do not. I just go and imagine the old times through several photos my parents kept for long. But I am not saying that I am some sort of a jetsetter or a frequent flyer who has all these stamps on her PP. Nope, I am just a normal traveller who makes the most out of every destination and experience. And besides, I only fly domestic as I have promised to know my own land before visiting others.

With these, I came up with a list of must-go places in the Philippines, where I have been to. Of course, I cannot suggest a place foreign to my senses.

ILOCOS

    Where to go?
    1. Pagudpud beach -  Personally, open seas are undeniably picturesque. A good place to shoot your winning photographs. though I should warn those who might not know that open-sea beaches are more dangerous. The waters are treacherous especially on high-tides.
(I checked in at Villa del Mar Resort and I was very pleased with the customer service and facilities)
    2. Patapat Viaduct - The viaduct connects the province of Ilocos Norte and Cagayan.
(If you are lucky enough to come until the ruins of a cargo ship is still visible then I say it's really worth the motion sickness you might get from the road curves)
    3. Baluarte - A privately-owned tourist attraction which houses variety of wild animals in its mini-zoo, a butterfly garden and a resort hotel.
(Baluarte is owned by Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson)
    4. Heritage Village - World's Heritage Site that shows the fusion of Filipino materials and European design.
(A "kalesa" ride around Heritage will complete your visit,  plus a good dine on nearby restaurants that offer Ilokano dishes.)
    5. Bangui windmills (NorthWind Bangui Bay Project) -  The turbines are located in Bangui Bay facing South China sea.

    What to eat?

    1. Vigan longganisa - Vigan's Native Sausage
    2. Empanada - A very famous street food for Ilokanos; a dough filled with vigan longganisa and other ingredients that go well together!
    3. Bagnet - Deep fried pork meat or Ilokano version of lechong kawali and pork liempo
    4. Tinubong - A sweet Ilokano delicacy cooked inside a young bamboo or tubong

    PANGASINAN

    Where to go?
    1. Patar Beach - Often tagged as the Boracay of the North. Beaches around Patar have fascinating rock formations where waves rush to, creating a breathtaking view for tourists, most especially to travel videographers and photographers.
    2. Bolinao Lighthouse - The lighthouse that guides vessels and serves as a tourist attraction in Patar. It is atop Punta Piedra Point where visitors can take a full panoramic shot of the ocean.
    3. Hundred Islands - Located in the city of Alaminos, Pangasinan. Island-hoppers' must! So, if the Republic of the Philippines has 7, 107 islands in its territory, who wouldn't love to take a hundred in one shot?

    What to eat?
    1. .Puto calasiao - Steamed rice cake goodness that comes in different sizes and colors, but definitely fluffy and sweet.

    BAGUIO

    Where to go?
    1. Mines view Park - One of the most visited places in Baguio because of its open deck where you can have the perfect view of nature's beauty and a one of a kind experience dancing with the natives of Baguio. More than a spot for tourist, Mines view is also a spot that overlooks the mining town of Itogon.
    2. Burham Park - Named after Daniel Burnham who was one of the key developers of the city, Burham park has wide open spaces for biking, boating and different types of recreation fit for all ages.
    3. Camp John Hay - For tourists who look for the extremes, the Tree Top Adventure is a must-visit and must-try in the camp. Adventures like zipline, tree-drop, trekking, and canopy ride await every adventurer who visits the camp.
    4. The Mansion and Wright Park - The official residence of the president whenever he visits Baguio, more often during summer. The mansion was built in 1908.
    5. Eastern Weaving Room - One of the eye-catching culture and arts finests of  Benguet is its weaving industry. The EWR houses the weavers of Benguet who artistically select colors and patterns as they weave blankets, native costumes, ponchos and etc.

(The finish products are sold in the first and second floor of the ERW. Perfect for collectors.)

    What to eat?
    1. Peanut Brittle
    2. Ube and Stawberry Jam
    3. Flavored crinkles and Lenggua de Gato
    4. Baguio also offer the cheapest price for fruits and vegetables so if you come across any of your faves, I suggest you buy them all the way or bargain.

    DAPITAN, ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE

    Where to go?
    1. Municipal Hall - This might look and sound absurd, but yes, when you get there, you need not to be told to take a picture. The green-glass municipal hall catches the eyes of every visitor.
    2. Gloria de Dapitan & Fantasyland - For fun-seeking tourists, extreme rides are not just in the country's capital, but also in the province of Zamboanga del Norte. Gloria de Dapitan is a commercial complex that has numerous bars, cafes, restaurants and a small Disneyland-like Fantasyland.
    3. Dakak Park Beach Resort -  The south beach surrounded by mountains and white sand. Apart from the beach and the swimming pools, Dakak also offers activities like zipline, ATV and etc.
    4. Ilihan Hill -  This hill is a sanctuary for Dapitanons, for it was the burial land of their ancestors. Ilihan is also the place to have a picture-perfect view of the city, the ocean and the nearby city of Dumaguete.
    5. Aliguay and Silinog Islands -  These islands are a boat/ferry away from the mainland of Dapitan City, but they are no less interesting and worth-visiting. These islands are all-the-way surrounded by white sand beaches where you can enjoy a peaceful and more private vacation.
    6. Sunset Boulevard - Based from experience, the boulevard never fails to make me stare in awe every sunset. And yes, this is where I took the stunning-gorgeous-magnificent-jaw-dropping picture of the sunset, and until then, no photograph came close to it.
    7. Rizal Shrine - The national hero's exile home in Dapitan during the Spanish occupation.
    8. Mt. Tapi - This is neither a well-known destination nor a part of the package. This is a risk-it-all adventure. Mt. Tapi is said to be the highest mountain in Dapitan. The only way to the summit (of course) is a trail (nope, not a well noticed trail). Thought risky, the adventure rewards you as soon as you get deep into the woods. The beauty of nature, the flowers, the sound of gushing waters, the singing birds and of course, the most awaited wind of the summit that takes 4-5 hours to feel. As soon as you get to the top, you'll forget about all you've been through, because all that matters is the fresh air and the not-everyone-can-see view of the city, neighboring provinces and islands.

(Ladies, this adventure is not just for men. I tell you, I've been there and it made me feel like I can do everything from then on. And, yes, I burned a lot!)

    What to eat?
    1. Spanish Sardines - From the culture of baling or dragnet, the rich industry of sardines-making in Dapitan grew into large export-worthy business.
    2. Lokot-lokot - A delicacy famous among Muslims which then caught the taste buds of every tourists who visits Zamboanga Peninsula. Lokot-lokot is a flour recipe which was pounded until fine and sweetened for flavor.

    DAVAO

    Where to go?
    1. Jack's ridge - Located in the mountain slopes of Davao, Jack's ridge is the perfect place for night-outs, romantic dates and family dinners in Davao. Who wouldn't enjoy eating while having the perfect view of the city night lights?
    2. Crocodile and Butterfly farm -  It's not just the crocodiles and butterflies, but also other animals like eagles, snakes, civets, sloths, ostriches and etc. And ooh, don't forget to try their Crocodile ice cream. Yes, you read it right! Your ordinary sweet addiction with a twist of crocodile eggs. Not everyone gets the chance, so have yours!
    3. Samal Island (Island Garden City of Samal) - Say you're tired of the stress and pollution in the city and you're thinking of crossing-out Davao from your list. Think maybe, you should reconsider. Why? Davao is more than the southern city life. Samal island is just few minutes away. The one-ferry-ride island is the home of numerous beach resorts that offers modest to extravagant kinds of accommodations and relaxations.

    What to eat?

    1. Durian (fruit, ice cream, candy)
    2. Mangosteen (fruit, ice cream, candy)
    3. Crocodile ice cream

So, in planning your next vacation make sure you'll make the most out of every peso (and vacation leaves filed). And you might want to share with me this tips:

    • Take photos, may it be professional photography, groupie or selfie (it's for keeps anyway).
    • Try their delicacies (come on, enough of the food everyone can get in the supermarket).
    • Go more than tour buses (have some time to walk around, getting lost is good at times).
    • Talk with the natives (it's not just the eyes and the tummy that we're trying to fill here, but our minds as well).
    • Respect the culture and religion (it is not the land that is foreign, it is you, so better know your place).
    • Smell the place (sounds funny, yeah, funny how the memory reminds us of a place's smell).
    • Spend time with nature (you might want to feel a first hand oxygen or a natural/universal connection).
    •  Do not plan every step, every move, everything (the best wanders are the unplanned).
